On the Main Stage—host to legendary acts like Opeth, Enslaved, Forbidden, and Malevolence—the audio production team, led by industry veterans Mark Ellis and Adi Billinge from Stage Audio Services (headed by Kevin Moberly), went all out to achieve flawless sound quality. With two Midas HD96-24 consoles at the Front of House (FOH) and a PRO1 console managing playback and shout functions, the setup ensured smooth communication and control, allowing engineers to adapt effortlessly to technical demands.

Ellis emphasised the importance of simplicity for guest engineers, who could easily take control thanks to an intuitive layout. Key instrument groups such as drums, guitars, and vocals were arranged using VCAs (Voltage Controlled Amplifiers), granting engineers quick access and agility in a live setting. “The beauty of Midas is that everything is right at your fingertips,” Ellis said. The Midas consoles allowed effects to be instantly accessible with programmable control buttons, while a responsive graphic EQ applied to the L and R channels enabled efficient mixing.

Bloodstock’s rapid-fire schedule posed additional challenges, with changeovers sometimes limited to just 20 minutes. To maintain this pace, the team deployed two-line systems—each connected to its own FOH and monitor desk—allowing sound checks to proceed even as other bands performed. “In the early part of the day, we’ve only got 20 minutes between sets,” the team noted. This efficiency created seamless transitions and a continuous flow of music, reinforcing Bloodstock’s reputation as the UK’s premier metal festival.

Staging an outdoor festival during the unpredictable UK summer brings its own challenges. But Midas consoles, known for their durability, performed flawlessly through rain, wind, blazing sunshine, and extreme heat. "No matter the conditions, Midas gives visiting engineers the best possible head start with top-tier gear and service,” added the FOH team.

The team have been long-time Midas users and Bloodstock’s engineers were full of praise for the HERITAGE D Series, citing its superior sound quality and user-friendly design. “I’ve always been a Midas fan,” said Mark, recalling his days with the XL4 and PRO Series. “The HD96 is no exception—fantastic sound, effects, and a workflow that’s digital but feels like analogue.”
